Board Member

Raising the Village Inc. (RTV) partners with last-mile rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa to address ultra-poverty through a multidimensional program model. Currently operating in Uganda, RTV has developed a low-cost, livelihood-based solution that can support ultra-poor households to become economically self-sufficient.

At this time, RTV is seeking individuals with deep expertise in three priority areas of strategic importance to join its Board of Directors. Applicants with knowledge of, or lived experience within the East African region are particularly encouraged to apply.

Experience Profile / Requirements

The successful candidate should have a strong background in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience, network, and capacity to provide guidance, support, and assistance to Management to attract/land multi-lateral funding
  • Experience/expertise in strategic government relations in East Africa to enable the organization to enhance government partnerships for greater contribution and impact
  • Experience/Knowledge in sustainable organizational growth specifically as it relates to growing NGOs in the African context, based on a deep understanding of NGO specific strategic and operational issues to provide programmatic guidance and direction

 

The following would be considered an asset:

  • Understanding of human resource/personnel considerations within the African context
  • Expertise and credibility in not-for-profit international development to drive positive reputation/image of RTV
  • Experience with smaller, rapidly growing organizations
  • Experience with organizations working in international jurisdictions

Time Committment

The full RTV Board meets every two months, with the committees meeting a minimum of four times a year. Board members should be prepared to spend around ten (10) hours per month on Board and Committee matters. This would include a combination of both virtual and in-person meetings. Virtual participation is fully supported to accommodate members from diverse locations. The initial term commitment is for three years, with an option of renewal at the end of that term.
